Maximum element size

Set the upper characteristic element-size target.

Location

Mesh → Free Tetrahedral → Size → Maximum element size

Initial value: auto.

Enter a length, for example 2[mm]; compatible length expressions are converted to metres. auto uses the preset or backend geometry sizing. This is a size target, not an exact element count or a guarantee that every edge has that length. Explicit sizes take precedence over Base fineness.

Using the value

Choose a size that resolves important gaps, curvature and physical gradients, then choose Build Mesh and compare a finer solution.

Troubleshooting

If a small region is under-resolved, inspect local Size controls and their order. Very small lengths can exceed the element or memory limit.
