This boolean controls the native overlapping-boundary check; it does not repair duplicate faces or sew an open shell.

Using the value

Inspect imported or coincident faces before meshing and review any reported boundary conflict.

Troubleshooting

Correct duplicate or inconsistent surfaces. Turning the check off is not proof that the mesh is suitable for a solve.
