Distribution
Control mesh resolution along selected edges and through thin regions.
Control mesh resolution along selected edges and through thin regions.
Where to find it
Mesh workspace; System → Mesh
How to use it
Select edges and set the element or through-thickness count used by the mesh sequence. Choose Build Mesh to apply the sequence.
Settings and initial values
| Setting | Initial value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Selection | all | all selects the applicable edges; otherwise use a named selection or the selection editor. In the supported structured meshing path the count contributes a global minimum-edge sizing constraint, not an exact edge-by-edge distribution. |
| Elements | 8 | In the supported structured meshing path, Elements is a fallback used only when Minimum through-thickness elements is empty or cannot be read as a finite number. The normal initial through-thickness value takes precedence, so changing Elements alone may have no effect. This is a global minimum-edge constraint, not an exact count on each selected edge. |
| Minimum through-thickness elements | 2 | Enter a positive integer minimum-edge division requirement. The supported structured meshing path takes the largest global requirement from Swept / Mapped, Boundary Layer and Distribution, subject to the structured-mesh resource limit. It is not an exact count on every selected edge. For Distribution this value takes precedence over Elements. |
Result
Inspect the element distribution and counts before running a study.
Troubleshooting
Distribution alone does not generate a volume mesh; retain an enabled Free Tetrahedral or Swept / Mapped feature.
