Choose whether adaptation refines for accuracy or attempts a smaller model.

Initial value: Improve accuracy.

Improve accuracy uses smaller target sizes. Reduce DOFs requests a coarser mesh to reduce degrees of freedom, meaning the number of unknowns. In solution-driven mode, coarser trial solutions are checked against the target estimated error; fewer unknowns are not guaranteed.

Using the value

Choose the mode, set its factor and error target, then compare the final mesh, convergence report and quantity of interest.

Troubleshooting

Naive coarsening has no error-controlled acceptance. Keep a reference solution before reducing resolution.
