Coarsening factor

Set the size increase for Reduce DOFs.

Location

Mesh → Mesh Adaptation → Coarsening factor

Initial value: 1.25.

Use a finite dimensionless factor greater than 1. Naive multiplies initial sizes by this factor raised to Maximum adaptation cycles. Solution-driven uses coarser trial meshes and checks their estimated error.

Using the value

Increase size cautiously and compare against the finer reference solution.

Troubleshooting

A factor at or below 1 is rejected. Fewer elements do not imply acceptable solution error.
